Evolved to withstand sub-zero winters down to -40°C, yak wool is up to 30% warmer than standard wool and 40% warmer than Merino. Ethically hand-combed rather than shorn, the rare yak khullu we use in Nomé pieces features fibers in the range of 17.5–19 microns, offering an unmatched, weightless softness that rivals cashmere and feels incredibly gentle against the skin.

Independent testing proves yak wool is 1.6 times more breathable than cashmere, allowing moisture to escape so you never overheat, while remaining naturally odor-resistant, anti-static, and hypoallergenic. Possessing a natural, invisible coating that repels moisture, it continues to insulate perfectly even in damp conditions. Characterized by strong, resilient fibers that naturally outperform cashmere in durability, it is highly resistant to pilling and easily retains its clean structure and original shape over time.

This Nomé piece is fully traceable via the Responsible Nomad System. We ensure a transparent journey from the grasslands to us, guaranteeing your yak wool was ethically combed and sustainably harvested by nomadic herders.

Unlike goats (cashmere), which pull grass out by the roots and cause desertification in the Mongolian steppes, yaks gently graze by clipping the grass above the root. Choosing yak wool directly protects the nomadic ecosystems. Fully traceable from the grasslands to your wardrobe.

Crafted with Care & Purpose

Knit in Ulaanbaatar by a family-owned, woman-led atelier with over 30 years of expertise. Over 88% of artisans are women, with priority given to providing long-term employment for single mothers. Artisans receive above-average wages in safe, heated facilities. Garments are finished with non-toxic detergents, water is reused up to 3 times, and 100% of yarn scraps are recycled to eliminate waste.
