Nomé was founded on a simple belief: true luxury lies in care, not excess. We craft timeless knitwear and home essentials from rare Mongolian yak wool — a resilient, natural fiber sourced directly from the Mongolian steppe.
Designed with Scandinavian simplicity and knitted by generational nomadic artisans, each piece balances functional beauty with deep heritage. We produce in small, intentional quantities — valuing craftsmanship over speed, longevity over trends, and transparency over noise.
Nomé is more than knitwear; it is a return to a slower, more thoughtful way of living.
Crafted with purpose
Our collection is knit in Ulaanbaatar by a family-owned, woman-led atelier with over 3 decades of experience. Founded in 1992 by a female artisan named Bayarmaa with a single sewing machine, the atelier has grown into an intimate team of 42 skilled artisans.
Over 88% of the workforce are women, with dedicated priority placed on providing stable, long-term employment for single mothers.
Ethical and Fair
We honor both the maker and the land at every step. Beyond employee protections guaranteed under Mongolian labor law, our partner atelier provides above-average compensation, ensuring our artisans work with dignity in modern, safe, and heated facilities. They actively conserve resources by washing garments with non-toxic detergents, reusing water up to 3 times, saving energy, and recycling 100% of yarn scraps to eliminate waste.
The nomads behind our wool
Mongolia is home to one of the last true nomadic cultures.
Our atelier in Mongolia directly partners with herding families in the Khuvsgul and Bayankhongor regions, who have lived in harmony with the land for generations — moving with the seasons and caring for their animals with deep knowledge and respect.
Yak down is an important source of income for these communities. It helps sustain their way of life and protects traditions that are increasingly challenged by climate change and modern pressures.
By working directly with these specific families without middleman, they ensure fair compensation for their labor. The quality of our wool comes from the care they take in tending their yaks through gentle, seasonal hand-combing and responsible pasture management. Their craft and culture make our garments possible — and we’re proud to support them through long-term, responsible partnerships.
