Born in the mountains of Mongolia
High in the Mongolian mountains, yaks thrive in temperatures that drop below –40°C. Their dense undercoat — known as yak down — is a natural insulation masterpiece, protecting them from extreme climates. Each spring, this fine inner hair naturally sheds and is gently collected by combing, not shearing. The process is cruelty-free, respectful, and in harmony with nature.
Unlike cashmere goats, yaks are not farmed in mass numbers. They’re raised primarily for transport, milk, and food — their fiber is a natural byproduct. This means a lower environmental footprint: no overgrazing, no desertification, and no depletion of grasslands. Yak wool represents a model of balance between human need and ecological respect.
Yak down rivals cashmere in softness — yet it’s stronger, more breathable, and up to 40% warmer than Merino wool. Naturally odor-resistant, hypoallergenic, and designed to last through years of wear.
Better for you. Better for the planet.
Yak wool connects people, culture, and landscape. By working directly with small herding communities in Mongolia, we help preserve traditional craftsmanship and provide fair, stable income for local families. Every purchase supports sustainable livelihoods and keeps an ancient practice alive.
Yak wool garments are made to live long to be cared for, repaired, and passed on. Our Lifelong Care Promise ensures we’re here to help, no matter how long you’ve owned your piece. Because longevity is the most sustainable choice of all.
