Sourced at the Edge of the Grasslands
True structural luxury is born from environmental necessity. Sourced from traditional herding collectives, our raw yak down (khullu) comes from animals that endure extreme climates where temperatures drop below -40°C. To survive, they develop an exceptionally dense, protective undercoat.
Each year, as the winter thaw breaks, nomadic families harvest this precious down using gentle, traditional hand-combing methods. This practice respects animal welfare and ensures the long-term health of the Mongolian grasslands. By procuring directly from these independent herder cooperatives, every fiber we use actively supports the livelihoods and centuries-old heritage of the steppe.
The Art of Classification and Refinement
Once the raw fiber is gathered, it moves directly to a partner facility in Ulaanbaatar, where the raw material is transformed into refined yarn.
The raw wool is first sorted entirely by hand into over 20 distinct categories under natural daylight, relying on the tactile expertise of master artisans who gauge fiber fineness by touch alone. Following classification, the fiber is gently washed using eco-friendly soaps to remove dirt and natural wool-greases, before passing through specialized de-hairing machinery to strip away coarse outer bristles. What remains is an ultra-pure, premium down.
Spinning, Knitting, and Form
Before the refined down can become a garment, it is spun into yarn using a precise five-phase spinning technology that maximizes tensile strength and locks in the fiber's natural, spring-like elasticity.
From there, the yarn is formed on computer-controlled, automated knitting machines to create varying structural weights. Finally, each individual garment undergoes 15 to 30 highly detailed, manual post-knitting procedures—including precise hand-sewing, gentle washing, and structural block-ironing. This thorough finishing process stabilizes the knit, ensuring the garment retains its perfect shape for a lifetime.
