The pretext
We are conditioned to look for single-origin coffee or cacao, recognizing that geographic purity shapes character. Yet, we rarely apply that same standard to our clothing. In a globalized supply chain, a single sweater routinely travels across three or four countries before reaching a wardrobe. At Nomé Studio, we believe true luxury requires a completely traceable lineage.
The Terroir of Fiber
Just as elevation and climate change the flavor of a fine tea, a harsh environment directly dictates the quality of a natural fiber. Our raw yak down (khullu) is sourced from traditional herding collectives in Khövsgöl, the northernmost province of Mongolia, where animals endure extreme winter temperatures that plunge below -40°C.
By relying strictly on this single geography, our fiber is never blended with wools from other countries or climates. This material purity keeps the staple length, texture, and structural quality incredibly consistent, preserving the exact characteristics of the landscape.
An Unbroken Loop
To protect this integrity, our entire supply chain remains in Mongolia. From the first comb in the northern provinces to the final quality inspection in Ulaanbaatar, every phase of production happens within a single country.
When the distance between the herder, the spinner, and the knitter is essentially zero, we eliminate the heavy carbon footprints associated with global shipping loops. More importantly, it ensures the true economic value generated by this craft stays within the local communities that protect it.
A Living Palette
This geographic isolation gives rise to our living palette. Because the fiber remains unblended and we work with its natural, undyed shades as much as possible, every garment carries the unrepeatable story of a specific season, a specific herd, and a specific climate.
It is an honest reflection of its origin, a personal artifact designed to endure, bloom, and mature with you for a lifetime.
